Unlock Your Diner Chef Dreams With a Colossal Outdoor Griddle

Once the giant propane-powered griddle was assembled on the porch of my parents’ house, friends and family members passed by in succession, many confused about what you would do with such a vast cooking surface. Not my sister, though. She got the idea right away.

“I want to cover that thing with bacon.”

The magic of the Cuisinart 36-inch Four-Burner Gas Griddle (CGG-0036) is the feeling that you can cover it with a metric ton of food. Perhaps along with all the bacon, you’d like to make pancakes for a group, all at once instead of one or two at a time in a skillet on the stove. Later, you could also cover it with vegetables of all sizes—there’s no grate for them to fall through—or spread everything to make dinner for four across the top.

Cooking on this thing, flipping chops on one side and a big pile of onions on the other, put me in mind of Argentine chef  [...]  read more

Spain Trip 2022: Top Things To Do In Madrid Over A Weekend – Swirlster

The political and cultural centre of Spain – Madrid – makes a grand first impression. A walk around its elegant boulevards, and you will find yourself admiring the beautifully-preserved medieval buildings at every nook and corner. The heart of Madrid is no doubt bustling with tourists, yet that’s where you will want to be – from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol to making your way to Gran Via. Don’t be surprised if you are drawn to endless bar de tapas or tabernas to indulge in local delights of Croquetas de jamon (ham croquettes), Gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), Chorizo al vino (sausage in red wine) and pitchers of sangrias. That’s just the start; you are yet to explore lavish palaces, cathedrals, flawlessly manicured parks, a host of art museums called the Golden Triangle of Art, charming neighbourhoods, michelin-starred restaurants, pub crawls, a lesson of flamenco perhaps… the list goes on!

Best Things To Do In Madrid In 2022

Don’t know where to start? We are here to make it simple and easy by listing down the top things to do in Madrid over a weekend or a 2-night’s stay:

1. Start With Plaza Mayor

A great way to start is to be in the middle of it all. Make your way to the hub of old Madrid – Plaza Mayor, which is a 17th century landmark that was once the venue for ceremonial events as well as bull fights and executions. The three-storey buildings enclose a square with a statue of King Philip III standing tall at the centre (it was during his reign Plaza Mayor was built). Endless restaurants dot the area and make for a good spot to experience the place at leisure while sipping some wine. Before you leave, make a pitstop at a no-frill tavern called La Campana that serves a perfect on-the-go treat – Bocadillos de Calamares (calamari sandwich). Or for those with a sweet tooth, Chocolateria San Ginés is where you can grab the best churros.

MSR’s Hubba Hubba NX Tent Is Solid, but I Hate the Zippers

I’ve found that Mountain Safety Research (MSR) tends to arrive at an impressive iteration of a product and then stick with it. Most outdoor gear companies tend to gradually ruin their best products with incessant cost-cutting and penny-pinching, but they should take a page from MSR’s book.

That said, when you refresh your products, it’s a good idea to look at what your peers are doing. MSR’s Hubba Hubba NX backpacking tent, which was redesigned for 2022, could’ve used a few more minor changes to keep it from feeling outclassed by its increasingly strong competition.

Blowin’ in the Wind

The Hubba Hubba NX is available in one-, two-, and three-person versions. I tested the two-person version and took it out for a week of hiking in Texas’ Big Bend National Park, from chilly forested mountains to 95-degree desert hikes.

MSR cut 10 ounces—a significant amount of weight—off the two-person, pre-2022 Hubba Hubba NX. It now weighs only [...]  read more

Google hits back at claims Gmail inbox filters are biased

Google’s Gmail is easily one of the best email services around, but that doesn’t shield the company from criticism – far from it.

In fact, tensions ran high (opens in new tab) in a recent meeting between Google’s staff and Republican Senators after the lawmakers criticized Gmail for allegedly having a bias against right-wing fundraising and campaign emails.

The genesis for the frustration was a recent study (opens in new tab) of 300,000 emails during the 2020 election that claimed Gmail was 50% more likely to designate messages from Republicans as spam than those from Democrats.

Now, whether unsolicited spam messages should be getting into inboxes in the first place remains a topic for debate, but perhaps there is something there.

Google certainly disagrees and has released a  [...]  read more

Video shows Russian solider giving middle finger to Ukrainian drone before being blown up

Shocking, new footage shows a Russian soldier flipping off a Ukrainian drone before being blown up by enemy munitions.

In a 90-second clip posted Sunday, a drone zooms in on a group of Russian troops standing around a vehicle. About 17 seconds into the footage, one of the six Russian soldiers turns his head up to the sky, and directs a one-finger salute to the drone.

As the camera pans out, the drone releases a grenade onto the BTR-82A, a 8×8 wheeled armored personnel carrier, causing it to burst into flames.

It’s unclear when and where exactly the footage was taken, though the Ukraine Weapons Tracker Twitter account said it took place in eastern Ukraine, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday is “indescribably difficult” to protect.

The footage was shared a day after Russia reached a grim milestone of losing 30,000 soldiers in its war with Ukraine the country launched in late February.

DeLorean offers first look at its Alpha5 four seater EV

DeLorean Motor Company has revealed the first images name of its upcoming EV called the Alpha5. The main things that stand are the wedge-like supercar styling, pair of massive gullwing doors and four seats — letting it hit 88 MPH with two extra passengers or carry considerably more than 55 pounds of cocaine. DeLorean first teased its upcoming EV last month, promising a full reveal later this summer on August 18th. To be clear, it won’t be built by the original DeLorean, but rather a Texas company that purchased the rights to the DeLorean name and spare parts.
DeLorean

The Alpha5 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s ItalDesign studio (which also designed the original DeLorean) but there’s no word if it uses stainless steel panels like the OG. It’s based on the “Medusa” concept that the original DeLorean company had been working on before it went bankrupt back in 1982.

That vehicle was supposed to have four independent gullwing doors, but the DeLorean appears to have decided (probably wisely, given the complexity of such doors) to stick with two. From a top-front angle, the Alpha5 bears a passing resemblance to Tesla’s new Roadster with similar lines on the hood/frunk.

DeLorean

DeLorean is targeting a 100kWh battery pack that should provide excellent range, along with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. It’s projected to hit a top speed of 155 MPH and go from 0 to 60 MPH in 2.99 seconds or (yes) 0-88 MPH in 4.35 seconds.

The DeLorean was made famous, of course, by the Back to the Future series [...]  read more
