It’s that time again, folks! Bollywood has decided to dust off its favourite cash cow and serve us another helping of déjà vu with the announcement of Drishyam 3. The film is set to hit the cinemas on the 2nd of October, 2026, and features the return of the series’ favourite faces – Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran – under the direction of Abhishek Pathak. As a blogger who loves films and TV series, I can’t help but have mixed feelings about this announcement.

Drishyam, the first instalment in the franchise, was a much-needed breath of fresh air in the often repetitive landscape of Bollywood. It brought a unique combination of family drama and suspense that had us all on the edge of our seats. But by the time the second part rolled around, it felt a little too familiar, a little too comfortable, like an old pair of shoes that have lost their shine but you can’t quite bring yourself to throw away.

The announcement of a third instalment brings us back to the now well-known family drama, the endless cat and mouse chase, and the question – is it really necessary? The original cast is back, and it’s hard not to wonder what they could achieve if they were given a new script, a new world to explore. Instead, we are plunged back into the familiar, the safe, and the repetitive.

Tabu and Ajay Devgn resume their roles as the persistent cat and the elusive mouse. While their performances have been commendable in the past, the repetitive storyline does nothing to challenge their acting prowess. The narrative has become predictable, and it’s hard to believe that the third instalment will bring any groundbreaking revelations or character developments.

Abhishek Pathak, the director of the series, has shown his skill in creating suspense and drama in the previous films. However, the question arises whether he can bring something new to the table with Drishyam 3. The franchise is known for its lack of surprises, and it’s hard to imagine that the third part will be any different.

The screenplay, which was the strength of the first Drishyam, has also become part of the problem. Sticking to what worked in the past has resulted in a lack of innovation and a stale storyline. It raises the question of whether it’s time to retire the franchise and invest in fresh ideas.

Now, let’s talk about the release date. The 2nd of October, 2026. It’s been dubbed as the grand finale, the “Aakhri Hissa”. But is it an end of an era or end of originality? Only time will tell. The buzz around the film will no doubt be immense, with the anticipation reaching fever pitch as the release date approaches.

To conclude, while the Drishyam series has had its moments of brilliance, the announcement of a third instalment feels like a revisit of the same old plot. It’s hard to predict whether this film will provide something new or fall into the trap of predictability. Regardless, it’s clear that fans of the series will flock to the cinemas to witness the grand finale.

As for my recommendation, if you’re a fan of the franchise, by all means, mark your calendars. But if you’re looking for something fresh and innovative, it might be best to skip this one. Here’s to hoping Bollywood shakes up its formula and brings us something new in the future. Until then, we’re stuck in an endless cycle of sequels. Cheers to that!
