Myanmar Frees Over 3,000 Political Prisoners Ahead of National Election

  • Political prisoners released in Myanmar mass amnesty – Excited families are greeting relatives released from Myanmar’s Insein Prison as part of a mass amnesty granted by the country’s military rulers ahead of next month’s election. State media reports that over 3,000 prisoners locked up for opposing army rule have been granted amnesty, and charges have been dropped against over 5,500 others.[1]
