As of June 10, 2025, several major international events are making headlines around the world:

In Europe, a tragic school shooting in Austria has resulted in 9 deaths and 12 injuries[4]. Additionally, a mudslide in Switzerland’s Valais canton has forced dozens of evacuations[5].

The Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to develop on multiple fronts. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has demanded “action from America” following the latest Russian drone and missile attacks on cities including Kyiv and Odesa[4]. Ukraine also conducted drone attacks on Moscow, with officials reporting that at least 10 drones were shot down approaching the city[4]. On a more positive note, Russia and Ukraine have begun a prisoner exchange following peace talks, with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stating that “more stages will follow”[4][5].

In the United States, ICE raid protests are continuing in southern California, with President Trump deploying more troops to Los Angeles as the protests intensify[2][5]. There’s also tension between President Trump and California Governor Newsom regarding the National Guard’s deployment[2].

In health news, U.S. Health Secretary Kennedy Jr. has removed all members of the CDC’s vaccine committee[2].

In the Middle East, Israeli forces have seized a Gaza-bound aid boat and detained climate activist Greta Thunberg and other activists on board, enforcing the blockade of the Palestinian territory[4]. Several people were also reportedly killed in a shooting near Gaza food centers[5]. Meanwhile, a convoy has set off from Tunisia to protest the Israeli blockade of Gaza[5].

In diplomatic news, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Norway have sanctioned two far-right Israeli Cabinet ministers[4]. US-China trade talks have entered their second day[4], and NATO Secretary General Rutte has called for air defenses to be boosted fourfold to counter Russia[5].

In Japan, the stealth frigate JS Yahagi has docked in Australia as part of Japan’s push to secure a $6.5 billion contract to build Australia’s next-generation naval fleet[4].

The Italian referendum appears to be failing as turnout is far below the required threshold according to polls[5], and the Greek island of Santorini is experiencing a significant drop in tourist numbers[5].
