Sarah Michelle Gellar Offers Heartfelt Update on Shannen Doherty’s Brave Journey with Cancer
Sarah Michelle Gellar, with warmth and admiration, recently spoke about her dear friend Shannen Doherty’s ongoing journey with cancer.
“She’s truly remarkable,” shared the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star during an interview with Access Hollywood. “When you think of a warrior, Shannen embodies that spirit. Every day, she faces it with courage and determination.”
Gellar continued, “Like all of us, she has her good days and challenging ones, but she’s showing immense strength.”
Doherty, who bravely shared her initial breast cancer diagnosis in 2015, disclosed earlier this year that the illness had progressed to her brain. The resilient “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress, at 52, gave a glimpse into her journey by sharing a poignant video from the hospital prior to a surgery.
In a heartfelt caption, Doherty expressed, “The weight of fear can be immense. The uncertainty, the concern for loved ones, and the personal battles one faces. But this is a facet of the journey with cancer.”
Doherty, always candid about her experiences, spoke at 90s Con in September, sharing her vulnerabilities and the emotional toll of her journey. “Every day is a battle, but I believe in my strength,” she conveyed.
Even in challenging times, Doherty’s spirit shone through as she lightened the mood with a jest about her recent divorce from Kurt Iswarienko, her partner of 11 years.
Gellar, a beacon of support, has stood steadfastly by Doherty’s side.
