Mitch Rowland’s Meteoric Rise: From Pizzerias to Pop Charts

Mitch Rowland, once known to many as a pizza boy, has now etched his name in the annals of music history. In a span of just seven years, he transitioned from serving slices to collaborating with pop sensation Harry Styles, and now, he’s making waves as a breakout folk artist.
Back in 2017, when Harry Styles unveiled his “Behind the Album” documentary, the world was introduced to Mitch, the enigmatic co-writer and guitarist. While Styles had been a household name since 2010, Rowland was the fresh face that had quickly forged a bond with the former One Direction star. Their serendipitous meeting happened when Rowland, the amateur musician from Ohio, filled in for another guitarist who missed a recording session. Styles appreciated Rowland’s unbiased approach, which brought a fresh perspective to the music.
Since then, Rowland has not only been a pivotal part of Styles’ touring ensemble but has also garnered a fanbase that sometimes rivals the adulation Styles receives.
Fast forward to today, Rowland is stepping into the spotlight with his debut album, “Come June.” This self-taught guitarist, who once jammed to rock bands like the Black Crowes, began his musical journey penning songs in college. His move to Los Angeles in 2013 saw him working at a pizzeria, contemplating his musical aspirations. It was his collaboration with Styles that truly set his career in motion. Their bond was so strong that Rowland even found love within Styles’ circle, marrying the drummer, Sarah Jones, and starting a family.
“Come June” showcases a different musical flavor compared to the Styles albums Rowland contributed to. It’s devoid of chart-topping hits like “Watermelon Sugar,” but is rich with acoustic gems reminiscent of “Meet Me in the Hallway” and “Matilda.” The album captivates with tracks like the dreamy “Bluebells,” inspired by the news of Jones’ pregnancy, and showcases Rowland’s Grammy-winning songwriting prowess in songs like “See the Way You Roll” and “Illusionist.”
In essence, “Come June” is a musical journey that resonates with its simplicity. With most tracks under three minutes and minimal instrumentation, it’s a soulful collection perfect for introspective autumn evenings.
