Amazon announced a slew of new devices
Amazon held a media event in Seattle today, and boy did it have a lot to talk about. From its answer to Apple’s AirPods, to Echo glasses, rings, outlets, and upgraded speakers, Amazon unleashed a flood of new hardware (and a few bonus software features), most of which will be available this fall.
How Trump’s Ukraine mess entangled CrowdStrike
For many Americans, Trump’s mention of cybersecurity firm CrowdStriike in a summary of his phone call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky was the first time they’d heard of the company. But CrowdStrike just so happens to be who the Democratic National Committee called after it was famously hacked in 2016. So why bring up CrowdStrike now? “I honestly have no idea why Trump would be raising this company with Zelensky,” says Michael McFaul, former US ambassador to Russia in the Obama administration, “other than to somehow try to undermine the work of both CrowdStrike and the US intelligence community, which confirmed the original CrowdStrike revelations, as documented in the Mueller report.”
Fast Fact: 3.6 millimeters a year
That’s how much the oceans rose between 2006 and 2015. It may not sound like much, but it’s more than double the annual rise between 1901 and 1990, and could threaten the nearly 700 million people who live in low-lying coastal zones with once in a lifetime storms every year.
WIRED Recommends: Nintendo Switch Lite
While Nintendo’s latest gaming console can’t connect to the TV like its predecessor (the Switch), it is much improved as a mobile device. Think of it as a love letter to handheld gaming, and if you’re the kind of person who likes to curl up on the couch with your games, this could be a perfect match.
