Company continues to build through acquisitions

Accenture is turning its attention to big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics with the acquisition of Pragsis Bidoop, the latest purchase in a buying spree that included five acquisitions in August and more than a dozen since January.
The Lowdown: The professional consulting services company will integrate Pragsis Bidoop’s 200 employees into its Applied Intelligence business. Pragsis Bidoop, with headquarters in Madrid and additional offices in Barcelona and the U.K., will bolster Accenture’s AI, analytics and automation capabilities in the European and Latin American markets.
The Details: The acquisition is part of an aggressive M&A strategy fueled by $1.5 billion Accenture has set aside to expand its business via acquisitions. The 15-year-old Pragsis Bidoop brings with it an established presence in the big data and AI market in Spain and a reach with multinational companies in Mexico, Brazil and other Latin American markets. The company provides solutions around big data, AI for digital twins – digital models of physical objects, systems or processes – machine learning for manufacturing processes and predictive analytics models.
The Spanish company’s reach touches an array of industries, including banking, insurance, retail, energy, pharmaceuticals and the public sector. No financial details were released.
Background: Accenture’s Applied Intelligence unit has more than 20,000 employees around the world, including 6,000 data scientists, data engineers and AI professionals.
